The Real Reason We Are Here There was still a lot to do when I woke up early that rainy gray Saturday morning in March. In just a couple of hours I was to be at Gabriel’s Place setting up for a potluck and conversation with gardeners, farmers and foodies to connect and share our passion of growing, sharing and eating […] The Real Reason We Are Here

To Hull and Back To Hull and Back Throughout our pilgrimage people would ask where all we planned to visit during our time in England. We’d happily answer, “Oxford, London, Nottingham and Hull.” “Hull?!” the questioning response came with faces that ranged from contorted disgust to sincere concern for our mental well being.   Some of our favorite responses were: […] To Hull and Back

What’s Your Dream? On Monday our new Brendan’s Crossing cohort moves in. I’m looking forward to this year, this group of young adults and watching the good work they’ll do in our city. Most of all I’m looking forward to hearing about their dreams. We promise our young adults “vocational discernment” and have long borrowed the famous Mary Oliver […] What’s Your Dream?

The Theology of Play D&D Edition – a reflection by Carl Fosnaugh IV I have heard it said many times in many different places that adults have forgotten how to play. Somewhere in between recess in elementary school and adulthood we have forgotten how to play and we are in desperate need to rediscover play. Perhaps they are right. Perhaps we have. We put down our dodge balls […] The Theology of Play D&D Edition – a reflection by Carl Fosnaugh IV

Triangle: Faith, Family and Friends I nearly froze when she said we were going to watch “The Antwone Fischer Story.” I thought to myself, “The f@!* I am! I already watched that, lived that, and it’s not worth repeating.” As Mary Laymon, our facilitator, would go on to explain, my anxiety was high and I felt out of control because […] Triangle: Faith, Family and Friends

Growth, Weeds and Some Beautiful Things We were late gathering for directions to guide our first springtime Garden Work Day, but I knew it would look better once we got through the morning. It was colder than expected. So cold, in fact, that I put my slim winter gloves under my rubber dipped gardening gloves just to keep the numbness at […] Growth, Weeds and Some Beautiful Things

Why I Practice Morning Prayer Two years ago this morning we were in a delivery room exhausted, a little scared and uncertain of our next move. My wife, Brooke, had gone into labor around 6:00am the day before. We had taken 12 weeks (TWELVE WEEKS!) of birthing classes to prepare us for what we hoped would be an unmedicated, natural […] Why I Practice Morning Prayer

Enter Rightly A Reflection for Palm Sunday, by Carl Fosnaugh IV   “Boom Baby!!!” With that load outburst and a kick to the door, Emperor Cusco of Disney’s Emperor’s New Groove would triumphantly, rudely, arrogantly enter a room. Such an entry spoke his many faults. His thin bravado ill prepared him for the trials that laid ahead […] Enter Rightly

A Reflection from Carl Fosnaugh IV on the life of Leonard Nimoy He Lived Long and Prospered A Reflection on the life of Leonard Nimoy, a man who lived in the margins and Spock, the character that helped him do it. Before bowties were cool and time travel was wibbly, wobbly and timey, wimey. Before Harry learned his first spell. Before Clone troopers clashed with droid soldiers. […] A Reflection from Carl Fosnaugh IV on the life of Leonard Nimoy
